Confessions of a Change Agent Part 2

For my friends and colleagues of a certain age.

During a recent dose of downsizing, I chose a couple hundred CDs to part with.  While making those difficult choices of what to keep and what to lose, my 20 something neighbor dropped by.  Krista is in med school and bar-tends on weekends.

She saw the CDs I had put in 4 or 5 boxes.

“Do you like jazz and classical music?”

When she told me she did, I invited her to go through the boxes.  “Please take whatever you want.”

There was a pause and a mystified look on her face…or maybe it was a “well, this is awkward” look.

“I don’t listen to CDs – I get all my music here.”

She pointed to her phone.

What’s your plan for a post-cd world, or a world where current audiences and your future audience gets your music? And…watches the videos you will post.

Cue the standard lament, “How do we get the younger audience to come to classical music concerts” previously published article in nearly every major newspaper and arts magazine.

YOUR TURN: what instructions and assistance can you provide the performer who wants to connect with the way of the future?

LABELS -- YOUR TURN: How are you making the transition?  What should we know as we make our plans?

Please…do tell. We’re ready. We’re listening.

Asking for a friend…
