Don't Tag me Bro...Don't tag me.

To those of us who are being automatically notified because someone tagged (@)followers in their posts, we have two choices.

1. We can change our settings so that it doesn’t happen.

2. Ignore

****

To those of you that do include (@)followers in your posts, letting us know about information we may not be interested in, or might not be relevant to us, you also have choices.

1. Stop doing it. The "if we send our message to the largest possible audience, we will reach a lot of people" has been debunked by (@)sethgodin, and many other respected marketers who really understand how marketing works.

Also, some of us may find it terribly annoying, and that doesn't help you at all. And some of us might just ignore (you) or delete it.

Either way…mission not accomplished.

Sure — it would be simple to simply delete or ignore, but there are effective ways to get the word out to those who will find what you do relevant. And they’ll be glad that you reached out.

Mission accomplished.

Happy to chat about it any time.

On September 17, 2007, a University of Florida student was stunned by police with a taser at a forum featuring then–U.S. Senator John Kerry. Kerry was addressing a Constitution Day forum at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville.

Andrew Meyer, a 21-year-old fourth-year undergraduate mass communication student, had initially been allowed to ask a question after the close of the question period. He asked Kerry whether he was a member of the Skull and Bones society and used the term "bl—j-b" in reference to the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Meyer was forcibly pulled away from the microphone. and then immediately restrained, removed, and subsequently arrested by university police.

During his arrest, Meyer struggled and screamed for help. While six officers held Meyer down, one of the officers drive-stunned him with a taser following Meyer's shouted pleas to the police "Don't tase me, bro!"
