March Madness -The Road to the Three-Point Shot of your Career.

College Basket Ball’s March Madness Starts on Thursday March 20, 2025

The track at the gym where I walk almost every day overlooks three basketball courts where pick-up games, basketball camps, and soloists (me) are in action almost every day of the week.

When I watch those games with the players, whom I'm guessing are under 18 years old, I often see them take a three-point shot (22 feet away from the basket) the moment they're thrown the ball. No dribbling, no passing, no setting up of plays -- just shooting the 3. They're in autopilot mode.

And in this gym, very few people are sinking those three-point shots.

Three-point shots are integral to the game. One single three-point shot can win a game. Multiple (20 - 40) three-point shots that hit can be the key factor in one team winning over another.

College and Pro Basketball players mastered the three point shot through practice, and by repeating the shot at least a hundred times or more in one solo practice session.

Besides practicing scales, long tones, and practicing slowly, what could be more boring or tedious?

What’s the first step toward reaching your next career milestone?

Be boring…embrace the tedious, and you might just end up just like Phil.
